This weekend will be the big move to the new duplex. We're trying to get as many boxes and things over there by car as we can. That way there is so much less to move on the big moving day, and we can concentrate on moving the big, heavy stuff that needs to go on a truck.
Here are a few sneak peaks of things we have in place. Keep in mind that I am moving from a two story, three bedroom house with living room and family room into an apartment half the size. I am trying to bring as much of my stuff with me as I can, because I just love my "stuff!"
I was trying to figure out where to put all of this when I got the idea to stack it all! On the bottom is a coffee table that looks like a giant set of books. The bottom two pull out into a drawer, and this is where we put our old VHS tapes that we still watch. We have A LOT! On top of that is an old trunk I bought at a garage sale a few years ago. It holds a lot of my childhood possessions. On top of that is a suitcase I found at the antique shop last week for $6. I snatched it up when I saw that price!
Here are a few garage sale items that never actually made it onto the wall at the house. My TV is going to be under this arrangement. Tonight, I found my little wooden cow and it is now sitting on the shelf with the plate.
Bet you didn't even know I had a marble topped lamp table! When I grew up, my mother had one and I just loved it. After my father passed, I was hoping to get it, but my brother said he wanted it instead. To keep peace, I let him. I figured is it the table itself that is of such value, or the memory it brings? So I went out and bought my own and I am just as happy.
It is sitting in my bedroom under a picture that used to be on the wall above my desk at the office where I worked. Here is a closer picture of some of the things sitting on the table. Except for the lamp which I bought at Wal-Mart years ago for about $25, the arrangement will likely change. I was just pulling things out of boxes. I love that little green dish. I found it this summer at a thrift shop for $2.
My youngest son loves to take pictures of himself. I swear, that boy is always snapping photos of his noggin.
Here he is being a Ninja.
And here he is being serious.
The boys really like the new place. They said that they think we will be happy there. I think we will be too.

You're so fortunate to be able to move bit by bit like this and have the time to plan things. I'll bet you're weekend will go smoothly.
Looks like you're going to have lots of options for decorating your new home. BTW, your son is very handsome.
Hugs,
Chris
I have a marble topped table too! Mine is round and I got it at a flea market back in New England...LOVE it!!
I bet you will be happy once all your things are under one roof.
I'm happy that your move is not to hurried and stressfull, I love you arrangements thus far!
Hi Kady! You've got a great plan! Then it gives you time to do something that you love, which is decorate. Plus!, it gives you something to post! I love what you have already done. Keep us posted! Deb
You are doing beautiful things to the new place. It is looking so welcoming already. I'm glad the boys like it too.
All is looking good, Kady! I love everything you've done! That silly boy! I'm glad he's happy and I know that will make you happy!
Be a sweetie,
Shelia ;)
Stacking those trunks was a perfect idea. I think it looks really neat. My in-laws have one of those marble-topped antique tables too. Good luck getting everything over there. We've still got piles and piles of boxes and garbage bags filled with shit!
Justine :o )
How cool that you can set up the different areas ahead of time...instead of just dumping boxes and trying to sort through them. I love what you've done so far. And I'm really glad that it is becoming home for you and your family!
Everything is looking really good. Your son is a nut! LOL!
Oh, this is looking just great. I love the stacked tables and suitcase...looks really good.
Glad you can move like this...a little at a time.
I know you are going to love this new place ...your attitude is so good, Kady, that you will make it a fine home for your family.
Did you sell your house? or was it a rental...anyway, if you are trying to sell, GOOD LUCK...
And, I might have missed it, but have you found a job yet ?
I sure hope things are working out good for you, dear one...
I LOVE the way you stacked the table, trunk and suitcase-so clever. Your marble top table is so pretty, and IMHO, the vignette on it is lovely. Good looking goofy son! laurie
