It's not easy being green!

I always thought about posting a room on Rate My Space, but never had the guts. It was easy to post the beautiful flowers that grow in my yard and flowerbeds, but its hard to take credit for those because the previous owner is the one that did all the hard work! Anyhow, I love my bedroom. It's my favorite room in the house and my most favorite bedroom ever! The lovely color on the wall was already here and I didn't want to change a thing about it! I don't think that I will EVER paint over it. I love it that much. I was really happy that most of my things went with it too.

Never did post it though. I could just hear it -- paint the furniture white, edit, too much clutter (I am a huge fan of clutter by the way), remove the fake flowers, hang the picture over the bed lower. You know, I realize all of that would be the "correct" thing to do, but this is my room and I love it like it is.
Believe it or not, I actually did "edit" a little before taking the pics. I still have the stuff I love on the dresser. Here is a peek at the dresser scarf I got for $3 at the antique shop last weekend! My perfume sits on a plate with a picture of Paris on it.

I know the styles are completely different, but the flowers and the candle were a housewarming gift from my brother and his wife, and every time I see them, I smile. The book is from the Musee D'Orsay in Paris. I left the price on there because I like seeing a tag that says "francs," especially since they have since gone to Euros. The dish is supposed to be depression glass in the Madrid pattern, but some of it is fake. The bowl itself might be real, but the piece as a whole is not authentic. A candlestick is glued to the bottom, and I suspect the lid is fake. I am too embarrassed to say how much I paid for it on eBay! Buyer beware!

I love the embroidered tray. Not sure how old it is, but it appears VERY old. There's my postcard holder with a romantic postcard. I love Country Living magazine, and that was my favorite cover from the past year. Finally, I have a lavender-vanilla candle that still gives off quite a bit of scent. Its the first thing I smell when I walk in the door.
Oops, another eBay fake that I paid too much for. After the first two mistakes, I invested in a (half price) book on depression glass. It's still pretty though in the Mayfair rose pattern. I keep change in it.

This may or may not be a fake. I didn't pay much for it, so if it isn't real, I got my money's worth, and if it IS real, I got a bargain! I like keeping jewelry in it.

I love, love, love this lamp! I got it at a garage sale for a quarter when I was about 10. I fastened a bracelet that I got for my 8th birthday around its neck and its been there ever since.
This is why I love fake flowers. It looks so pretty!

And this is one of my favorite porcelain plates! I collect plates, and when I finally get the south wall in my living room painted, I'm setting them out again.

I still drool over all the beautiful homes on RMS that have gorgeous, perfect bedrooms that look like they belong in a high end hotel room, but they just aren't me. Everything in my room has a story or is precious to me in some way...and I wouldn't have it any other way.

You did GOOD on your sweet room.....

  5. Morning girl...Love this beautiful post...I too love clutter...it is the stuff that calls your heart and make you smile...I love all your treasures and how you keep them out so they surround you when you enter your room...I remember when I first joined RMS..ohhhhh weeee...I got bombarded for my clutter! lol Now I admitt I had alot of stuff but ouch..so I emptied the house and put alot in the shed and gave alot of it away....then I cried for two weeks!!!! I remember poor Bill trying to console me and asking me to please tell him what was wrong...I finally blurted out.."I CAN"T FIND MY HAPPY PLACE!!!!" He said.."I guess not...you gave it away!" lol lol So I went out to the shed and started bringing things back in and even bought some new things but I noticed as I did I was able to realize what I could and could not live without..Hi, my name is Picket and I love clutter.....oh sorry....lol...got beside myself there!!! lol lol Have a beautiful Mother's Day weekend sweetie!!!!

  6. I have scads of depression glass in Amber that I inherited.....I was lucky enough to pick up a few pieces to add to it that were genuine. I think even reproduction depression glass is lovely and can enhance a collection...plus you can "use" it without fear of it being irreplaceable....
    Your things are very lovely!
    Have a Blessed Weekend!

  11. I have always felt that if a person LOVES their space, that that is all that really matters!! And, it's obvious that you do!!!

I do like the color of your painted furniture...and would NEVER tell you to paint it white!!! (Besides, I don't own a stick of WHITE furniture...or anything that would stay that color if I did, LOL!!!)

    One note of concern:

I see plastic still covering a lampshade ~ the way it comes from the store. A friend of mine NEVER took the plastic off of her lampshades, either. She left it on so that her lampshades would not get dusty.

After I had voiced concern for her and her safety (fire hazard with lightbulbs so close), she just laughed and said it would NEVER happen. But, it did. She had a fire in her living room that was traced back to the plastic covering her lampshade.

The fire was alot of SMOKE, but nevertheless caused considerable damage...and the death of her beloved pet dog.

So.......please, if you do ONE THING, remove the plastic from your lampshades, sweetie!

    ~Blessings,
    Jan
