Blue Monday/ Blue Golden Globe Dresses (and more!)

I have a guilty confession. I just LOVE looking at the dresses on women attending red carpet award shows! Once I took a quiz where they displayed dresses, and I was able to actually indicate who wore them. I know. Embarrassing!

I also take great joy in reading the critiques of star's outfits. Sometimes I agree wholeheartedly and sometimes I disagree. I thought it would be fun to play fashion police with this year's Golden Globe stars! In honor of Blue Monday, I am starting with the starlets clad in blue. All of these photos are scarfed from MSN's website coverage of the event. Credit goes to AP and Wire photographers.

This first dress is a lovely confection in dark blue worn by the gorgeous Anne Hathaway. She looks like a princess, as she has often portrayed a princess. My only criticism is the severe hairstyle, which was also sported by several other starlets. I don't like it.

Mary Louise Parker is wearing a beautiful form fitting royal blue gown. I think it is stunning on her! But oh dear, could she have been bothered to run a hairbrush through that mane before stepping out? She also could have gone with a lighter hair color as this seems too matte black.

Here is another starlet in a dress that is in a blue and black print. I have to wonder why Maggie Gyllenhal had to swipe a dress from her grandmother's closet and have it altered for the event. I am not impressed.

I couldn't just show dresses in blue! This is too much fun! Next up is Amy Adams in a gorgeous black dress that fits her just right. My only criticism is that the actress wore something that contrasts too sharply with her porcelain complexion. She is such a natural beauty and I think that some actual color would have been lovely on her. She could also have done better with her hair.

I have always adored Drew Barrymore. I think the dress is cute, and I am totally loving her hair!

Elizabeth Banks is another natural beauty, and her hair is so cute here. I like the style of the dress, but could it have been cut from different fabric than her chenille bedspread? A little color would have been pretty too. Still, I rather like the dress.

Beyonce Knowles has the most gorgeous curvy figure and I just love how this dress is styled to accentuate her hourglass figure! Spot on!

It's hard to find a dress for a teenager that is both age appropriate and still sophisticated, but I think Miley Cyrus hits it here! Again, I think of a little princess with this style. Adorable!

This is one of my faves for the night. Oh how I envy Brooke Burke's curvy figure, and this dress fits it like a glove without being sleazy.

My favorite of the night though would have to be Kyra Sedgwick in this form fitting red dress. Her hair is understated and lovely as well. Very well done!

Then there were some beauties who just seemed to kind of miss it. Angelina Jolie is one of the most beautiful women in the world, yet she wears this shapeless shift. She also wore a similarly shapeless, non-stunning frock to the People's Choice award. The looseness is going to fuel pregnancy rumors in the gossip rags. Maybe its simply that she bore twins a few months back! Still, she could have done better.
And Brad needs to lose that pornstache!

Yikes, Cameron Diaz, when did you last have your roots done? A year ago? I am sure this star can afford a hairdresser so that she could have showed up with hair that actually looked like she hadn't just got up. What is with that ill fitting pink dress and the black shoes? She can, and has done a lot better.

Not sure what image Jennifer Lopez is trying to get across here, but she just looks sleazy. Oh my goodness, a fat roll! Now that doesn't bother me a bit, heck the women recently bore twins and she is in fabulous shape, but Hollywood doesn't allow that sort of thing. Hmmm, seems the oft gossiped about wedding ring is missing again!

This tacky get up just made me utter, what on earth was she thinking? Marissa Tomei bared her bod in The Wrestler, so we know she has a shape. You just can't see it here in this concoction that even a septugenarian wouldn't be caught dead wearing.

The alltime award for Most Horrible Outfit of the Night and the What the Hell? award goes to Renee Zellweger. I don't even have words for how tacky she looks here! Ewww! Almost makes me want to take a bath! The hair is awful, the makeup is awful, but there are just no words for the toplessness implied here. Yes, you can see she is wearing a flesh colored bra, but still. NASTY! A double THUMBS DOWN!

Well this was fun! Who got your vote for the best and worst outfits of the night?

  1. Okay, OMG on Renee's dress. That is atrocious! I didn't like Kyra Sedgwick's either though. And J Lo? Ew ew ewwwwwwwwwwwww. That was just nasty and would have fit in better in a flemenco dance club. Slutty!

    Justine :o )

  2. Great post Kady, now I like all the blue dresses and if I had to choose the best overall look I would go with Drew, I never seem to like Beyonce's offerings, but of course she has the wicked figure!

I'm sorry but Jlo is just an ass! yes I said it! You just had twins and that's what you would wear! So insecure!

You sent me to the dictionary with the word 'septugenarian' I love it! lol!!

  5. LOL LOL OMGosh...I am ROTFL...you and I should seriously watch these award shows together!!! I do the same thing...petty, I know...but Geez..they know they are going to be photographed..they have MILLIONS of dollars, designers dying to let them wear their designs & STYLISTS for Pete's sake...with all that at their disposal...they still fall so completely short of the mark??? Where is old Hollywood!!
    UNBELIEVABLE!!

I think they should do a Celeb "What Not to Wear"
Where are Stacy & Clinton when you need them...LOL

  7. I agree: Renee's dress is UGLY. Ah well, that give me hope that even she cannot be perfect. I do have favorites: all of the BLUE dresses! Happy Blue Monday.

  8. I agree with your comments except for Kyra. I don't think the top of her dress is flattering to her bustline and the free end of the bel looks like it is flapping in the breeze.

Cameron always looks like she rolled out of someone's bed.

J Lo could learn a thing or two about sexy from Brooke. A little covering is sexier than being that bare, it leaves more to the imagination.

Renee is consistently disappointing while Drew just gets better (more sure of herself?).

Thank goodness I don't have a webcam on for anyone to critique me this morning, but then again, the red carpet walk is not an impromptu occasion.

  9. LOL Kady! Being from Cali, the red carpet is a huge topic of conversation for us and we watch it every year. I agree with Drew's dress. It was stunning! Love her :)

Angelina is a husband stealing slut so I could care less what she does, Bounce (as I call her) never impresses me with her outfits and needs to stop dressing like she's in the girl group she was in, Anne Hathaway's dress is beautiful, but I think she looks like a man with her hair like that, the other's are just okay, but I agree completely with you on Renee.... holy smokes that's ugly!!

    This was fun :)

  11. Wow I agree with your critiques way better than I do the fashion police! You were spot on. Although I wasn't a huge fan of Kira's dress...not sure about the belt. I did however think Drew's dress and hair looked fabulous. I'm not a big fan of hers but she looked smashing. And Renee...what were you thinking??? The stylist should be hung in town square and flogged lol. Great post!! I hope yo do one on the Oscars too!!!

  14. Great post. I read every single word. I didn't get to watch any of this last night so thank you for the red carpet tour. I often wonder if these women don't have one really good friend who would tell them the truth.

  17. Anne Hathaway is the best, and Renee is clearly the worst. Her dress is in horrible taste.

    XO,

  19. Mary Louise Parker's dresser is the most beautiful. I was so intent on the dress that I had to go back to look at her hair. The hair is a little dark and needs a comb but she's still gorgeous. Happy Blue Monday!

  20. Boy, Kady! Honey, you know your stuff! I think we should get you a job with "E"! You're great! There were some pretty tacky gowns there. I'd hate to be before the public eye like this wouldn't you?
    Be a sweetie,

  25. Fun post Kady! You would be a good commentator for something like this. I agree with everyone else on the tacky stuff on Renee. I would be embarrassed to be seen in something like that.

  26. What a great commentator you would make. I think you're right on the horrible dress and the flesh colored bra..and that Miley looks like a little princess. Happy belated Blue Monday and have a lovely week.

  27. It is fun to watch them walk the carper, some of them look so good and some of them need help and a lot of advice when finding that right look. It was fun watching them with you and your idea of what is in and what is out.................Hugs Sharon K

  28. Hi Kady, Yeah, what was RZ thinking? Didn't she look in the mirror? Or does she just have a bunch of yes men about her telling her she looked great? J. Lo's sure didn't leave much to the imagination. Not to say that it's not hideous, too. Drew B.'s was very pretty, Is she still dating the I am a mac guy? Anne Hathaway does look like a princess. Great post! ~ Robyn

  33. I watched the GGs with my mother, and now that I've compared notes with you, I see that we are in agreement about the dresses.
Memorable moments: when C. Diaz flubbed Angelina's name and called her "Angie-gyna" and when Winslett said, "What's that other one?"
I suppose you heard about the earlier award dinner (the name escapes me) when Angelina gave one of the actresses (I know her name, and I've gone blank--so I see how it can happen, lol) the "stink eye"?!
