Blue Monday/My Blue Day

Last week I participated in Blue Monday for the first time. Sally at Smiling Sally hosts this new weekly event. I thought it was a great idea because though I love pink, blue is really my favorite color! Join me on my blue day!

I've been wanting to try something different with my hair lately, even before Bridget gave me a virtual makeover! This week I got a haircut and a new perm. Babysteps though. I didn't have the guts to go straight, so I asked the beautician to take the curliness down a notch and not cut it so short. I didn't look hardly any different than when I went into the shop! Eventually, my hair should grow out more and I'll keep going with less curl each time.

Well, I got inspired by Buffie of Buffie's World to try to straighten my hair with a blow dryer and round brush. Check out her post Buffie Does a Blow Job. Oh get your minds out of the gutter! (Okay, my mind went that way too!) I thought I'd give it a shot, so I got this teal blue blowdryer, and "blew" my hair dry.
Not sure if I like the results or not. It was my first time. At least its not so poofy any more! Notice I have a turquoise blue shirt on!
Here is my cheesy MySpace style photo with my face looking up so all the wrinkles and the jowls fall back and don't show. Not bad for nearly 50!
My son took this pic.
I wanted to see how the back of my hair looked, so had my son take this picture. It looked pretty monstrous! (Thanks to my youngest son for the photoshopping!) Yikes, look at all those gray hairs! I get the dye job on Wednesday after work.
After that experience, it was good to relax. I started my blue day with something from Bath and Body. Any time I see this bag, I just know there is something that smells and feels good in there!
Pretty blue bottle! I love the lavender and vanilla aromatherapy lotion, especially at night. It makes me feel so relaxed.
And when I relax, I love to read my favorite magazine! Two recent covers were in blue. I love EVERYTHING about this cover!
And on this cover too! It makes me start lusting for pretty things I can't afford, lol. I could get lucky at a flea market though!
If I could go flea marketing, I could get ready for the day by spraying on some pretty blue perfume! I love this stuff.
I'll toss on my favorite blue jeans, a blue satiny camisole, and a striped blue cotton shirt! I'll hoof it in some teal blue sandals, and carry my money in a darker teal purse. I'm sure I didn't pay more than $12-15 for anything in this pic except the jeans. I will actually pay $40 for jeans that fit, because they are so hard to find!
Here is some detail.

I'll fasten on a blue necklace and earring set.
Or maybe I'll keep it simple and wear just these earrings, a pair of my favorites!

So did I go to the flea market after all? Nope, just teasing you! No extra money this week, but rest assured that if I do, I'll bring you along!

Have a great Blue Monday!

  1. Hey there beautiful. I LOVE that pic of you from your My Space page! Okay, baby steps with the hair, but you shouldn't have gotten the perm again. I know, I know, it's what you're used to, but part of the "change" (LOL) is going different. It's really hard to get a perm looking really straight and healthy, and your hair has to grow out in certain areas to get the look you're going for. One tip though... when you're blowing it out, make sure you're using a LARGE round brush and always curl UNDER, not over. And boy oh boy, turquoise if your color! You look fantastic in it!

  3. Kady,

You really went "all out" for Blue Monday; thank you! I especially like to hear a story that goes with the pictures; you do that so well.

I like your hair shorter, and like you, I have baby fine hair. I used to always perm, but now that I color it, I stopped. I don't want to double process it and have straw hair, so I only color. Of course, it's flatter, but you can't have everything, and I NOT going gray.

    Happy Blue Monday!

  33. Beautiful blues! And the turquoise looks so good on you. I must say I like your hair smoother! Good thinking on the larger curl perm! You might always need a perm for support~

Did I tell you about the hot air brush? You MUST get one. Revelon makes one that comes with two attachments. Make sure it has short bristly bristles. Then, dry your hair a bit with the regular (pretty blue) dryer. Then use the hot hair brush instead of a round brush and dryer. It is SO much easier and you can really get some lift on top.

I'm sitting here looking at a paint swatch called Summer Cottage by Lowe's Waverly colors. Reminds me much of your bedroom color.
Hmm... now what can I paint with it!?

  34. Oh my gosh, Kady - you are adorable! And may I say that you look marvelous! I love that outfit and the blue/green jewelry - that is exactly what I would have picked! Your son's photoshop of the back of your head cracked me up! He is so funny! Lavendar and vanilla sounds SO good! I also get Country Living and loved those covers! I'm going to have to try to remember Blue Monday... I have finally started remembering Pink Saturday! Have a wonderful weekend!!...Donna
