My blog dress and header has changed! As a newlywed, I am excited to present a whole new theme.

Pink Saturday/ Pink from Pink Magazines

Geez, wasn't it Saturday just a few days ago? Time again for some more pink posts! This week I got too lazy to look for pink things in my house, though rest assured, there is much more pink stuff in my possession. It's been a crazy week so I took the easy way out, but I don't think you'll be disappointed!

Country Living is one of my favorite magazines. Sometimes they have the most amazing pink stuff within their pages. Recently, I was going through some boxes (I am still unpacking after 18 months in my house) and I came across this old edition from June 2002. I threw a lot of magazines out when I moved. I know...ouch! I wondered why I had kept this particular edition.

Oh, this is why! Pretty pink stuff! I particularly love plates on the wall, especially pink plates! And look at this sweet white chair with a pink gingham cushion! I would love to have this in my living room.
I also love teacups and saucers. Isn't this pretty in just plain pink? Love the roses behind it. I could see this with a contrasting pattern.
Oooo, Little Miss Muffet sat on a tuffet...drinking a cup of tea out of this pretty rosey cup! I want one!
I need to have someone serve me breakfast in bed off of this pretty tray. You could fill a couple of these cups with my raspberry whipped Yoplait yogurt. Did you know roses are edible? Would be a shame to chow down on these gorgeous roses though. Hmmm, if you eat these flowers, would your farts smell like roses?
Ah, more pretty plates and place settings! You know I am loving this!
I would love to see a pretty napkin like this decorated with such a pretty piece of jewelry! That's my idea of living well, the breakfast in bed thing with a gift of jewelry. That would work for me! Ha, don't quite think that's going to happen though, even if my poofs do smell like roses!
I adore these pitchers! Such pretty flowers too! I love it with those glasses and the tablecloth. Is it linen or lace? Either look gorgeous, and so feminine!
Here is another place setting with a more whimsical pattern. Just adorable!
I found another Country Living magazine. This one is more recent from June 2007. I remember why I saved this one! Just look at this patio!
I would really love an arbor for my yard. I love that the deck is hidden a bit behind the bushes. Just walk through the arbor and you reach paradise!
Oh my, I know I am cutting way back on carbs and sweets, but I'm not sure I could resist this! Love that pitcher that holds the flowers. The pink lemonade looks yummy too!
This whole area with the white picket fence, wicker chairs with floral and checked cushions, the lovely vases and linens...oh my! Utter perfection! This is my idea of the ideal outdoor area! I wouldn't change a thing!
Hope you enjoyed my little fantasy!

Blue Monday/ Whole Lotta (Blue) Love

It's Monday again already. Ugh. The one good thing about Mondays though, is that in blogland, it's Blue Monday and time to share something blue! You can find more Blue Monday posts at Smiling Sally's blog.

This was just an incredibly beautiful weekend! You couldn't have asked for any better weather. Even though this is northern Ohio, it was sunny, the skies were clear, and the temp got up into the 80s! That's practically unheard of for mid-October!

This was the kind of weather that made me feel so happy and so blessed to live on this beautiful earth. I swear, its intoxicating! I sat on my deck and spent a good amount of time just gazing up at these incredible blue skies framed in the changing leaves of the trees in my yard. Just look at this!

This got me thinking about something else blue. No, not something to be blue about, but something old, something new, something borrowed, and something blue!
My daughter and her boyfriend are now officially engaged!
They have fallen upon some very rough times lately. This area is rife with layoffs and job losses. Both my daughter and her fiance have lost their jobs, in part to illness (on Tara's part) and just plain bad luck(on Mike's part) and a little bit of irresponsibility (on both's part). Thus there were no funds for a ring. Or even a wedding for that matter! Tara really wanted a ring, but would still have been willing to get married without one.

Well, last week was the final day of sales before the closing of our local K-Mart. Jewelry was 90% off. I looked in the case and WOW! I saw a beautiful ring! I called Mike and asked him if he wanted me to go ahead and get it. He said he wasn't able to pay me for it now, but I told him no problem, that he can pay me when he has the funds or can work it off. Just look what I got for $27! Ok, it's not a diamond, but its a gorgeous cubic zirconia and it is real gold. You can see the tag (and a bit of blue!) with the orginal price. Looks like lots of other people looked at it first. Must have been meant for me to buy it! Mike gave her the ring today and she is thrilled!.

Tara knew she could no longer afford the wedding dress that she had picked out this summer. She figured that maybe she could find a nice prom dress on sale to use as a wedding dress, but was having no luck. She browsed eBay and found this dress in her size. It was listed for only $75, brand new with the tags still attached! No one bid on it, so it came up for auction again. It was listed again with a starting bid of $75, or Buy It Now for $200. Keep in mind that this was a $425 dress!
I called her the morning that the auction ended to tell her that it ended and someone bought the dress. She was so disappointed when I told her it sold...until I told her that it sold to me!
It arrived in the mail on Tuesday! She saw it for the first time on Friday, and loves it! It will need taken in at the bodice. It's so generous there that it was even too big for my big melons! The little flowers look gold here, but they are actually a silvery white!

Speaking of silver, my daughter has chosen silver and ice blue as her colors! She still hopes for a December wedding, though Mike says they both need to be working because otherwise they really don't have money to be spending on a wedding. Well, the plans thus far are to have the wedding here with just family. There will be a potluck with everyone bringing food. Oh. My. Goodness. Am I nuts to have offered this! I am not Suzy Homemaker. I'm just not. I have a very lived in (read messy) house that I struggle to keep up with. But we can do this.

I was browsing the Dollar Tree this weekend, and found some decorations that would be in keeping with the theme of a Christmas wedding! There were lots of ornaments in silver and blue, so I snatched some up! Not sure how we will use them yet, perhaps to decorate the formal living room, or maybe to use as table decorations!

I love this blue and silver ribbon! And I love all the ornaments too!

Wish me luck over the next two months, especially for the kids. Tara starts a job waitressing tomorrow. Mike hasn't found anything yet, but is looking. They have lost their trailer and are living with one of his relatives, and they might lose the car. They really need a lot of prayers right now. In the midst of all this, you are probably wondering why I am wanting them to go ahead and get married. Well, they are living together already, and I would really like to see the sanctity of marriage on their union. I figure that at least they will be husband and wife through all of this. They've been together for over a year and are really in love with each other.

Besides, isn't getting an engagement ring AND a wedding dress for the grand total of $102 some kind of sign? Just kidding there.

Hope you all have a great Blue Monday!

Pink Saturday/ Pink Handcrafted Things!

Where does the time go? Hard to believe it is Pink Saturday again already!

This week I'm sharing some handmade items with pink in the patterns. The first is a heart shaped box that I found at a thrift shop for about $3 a few years back. I have this same fabric, but in a different color and I had used that fabric for curtains in my old bathroom, so I got this box to sit on my bathroom counter. It fit in very well with my pink walls and green accents.

I love the little fabric roses, though they have become squished over the years.
This next is a journal that my dear friend Sandy made. She hosted a table at a church women's luncheon a few months ago. Oh, how I wish I had taken my camera that day! At this event, women sponsor a table and decorate it with a theme. They serve with their own dishes, they provide the beverage and also the dessert. Everyone is then served the same luncheon. There is no end to the creativity! The tables were just wonderful, and the table that Sandy hostessed was a pink roses theme! She had porcelain plates and teacups with dainty roses, pink paper plates and silverware, and even a very pretty patterned dessert paper plate! It would have been my favorite table even if I weren't sitting there! Each hostess had a gift for those who sat at their table.
The fabric was in keeping with the theme of the event. She sewed all the pages into the journal, and even attached a ribbon as a bookmark. There is a flyer of the event!
She even decorated a pen for each of our journals to match the theme! Isn't this the cutest?
It was such a fun event! I hope she invites me again next year! I was able to see old friends and hear some music for entertainment. Sometimes there is even a speaker!

I love homemade items better than just about anything else! Even better if there are pink flowers on them!

Check out more pink posts at How Sweet the Sound.

A Tale of a Farting Dog

Today I thought I would share one of my favorite books with you. It's a book that has made me laugh over and over again.

When I was interning for my human services degree, I worked with elderly folk who had problems with depression and anxiety. I really enjoyed that time. I had wonderful preceptors who taught me much. At the end of my internship, they decided to give me a present. It was not at all what I expected, but I loved it! (In case you're wondering, they saw me looking at the book durding a Book Fair at the hospital. This has nothing to do with the time I accidentally had a poof squeeze out during a meeting with them!)

Here it is...the tale of Walter the Farting Dog:
This is a book by William Kotzwinkle and Glenn Murray. Illustrations are by Audrey Colman. It says in the beginning that this book is for anyone who's ever felt misjudged or misunderstood.

Look for the little spider in each one of the illustrations!

Betty and Billy brought Walter home from the dog pound. "Nobody wanted him," said Billy.

"But we love him," said Betty.

"Well he smells awful, said their mother. "I think you'd better give him a bath first."

Mother walked in and said, "He smells awful." And that's when they got the first clue. The tell-tale bubbles in the water.

"He's probably just a little nervous," said Mother, hopefully. "His stomach must be upset."

But Walter's stomach wasn't upset. Walter's stomach was fine. He felt perfectly normal. He just farted a lot.

He did it when he bathed. He did it when he played with Betty and Billy. He did it when he walked around the house.
He did it in the dining room. He did it in the kitchen. And he did it in his sleep.
"That dog farts morning, noon, and night," said Father.

"He can't help it, Daddy," said Betty and Billy. They didn't mind Walter's farts.

"So what if he farts," Billy said to Betty when they were alone in their room with Walter. Betty agreed. Walter agreed too. He sat there looking innocently around, farting.

"Take him to the vet," said Father.

"Farting," said the vet, "or rectal flatulence, as we say in the medical profession," and prescribed a change in diet. (Hey Buffie, does this remind you of anything? Hehehe!)
They gave Walter every kind of dog food. He farted. They tried him on cat food. They gave him hot dogs, hamburgers, and lettuce and tomato sandwiches.
They gave him fried chicken. They gave him rabbit food. They made him a vegetarian.

"No matter what that dog eats, he turns it into farts," roared Father.

Walter got the blame for everybody else's farts too. If Uncle Irv let one slip, he just went and stood near Walter.

Then all he had to say was, "Walter!" And everyone would look at poor Walter.

"He has to go back to the pound," said Father.

"No, Daddy, please," begged Betty and Billy. "Don't send Walter away."

"He goes tomorrow," said Father. They pleaded. Walter farted.

It was all over. That night, Betty and Billy cried in their beds, and Walter looked at them unhappily.

"Oh Walter," said Betty, "you've got to stop farting."

"Because Father is going to send you back to the pound tomorrow," said Billy.

Walter knew how serious the situation was. He'd never see Betty and Billy again. He resolved to hold in his farts forever. When Betty and Billy fell asleep, he walked down to the kitchen to see if there was anything around to eat. He managed to open the cupboard door with his nose and found the 25-pound bag of low-fart dog biscuits the vet had prescribed for him, which had made him fart more. Even though he knew they made him fart more, he couldn't resist. He ate the entire bag. "Very tasty," said Walter to himself."
And then he went and lay down on the sofa. A gigantic gas bubble began to build insided him.

"This is going to be trouble," he said to himself, nervously. He was afraid of what might happen if he let it go. He thought maybe the house would explode. So he kept it in. It wasn't easy. In fact, it was torture. But he had resolved never to fart again. His future depended on it. As he lay there, with his tail wrapped tightly between his legs, he heard a noise at the window.

He watched it slowly. A pair of burglars came through. They dropped silently into the kitchen.

"Watch out for the dog," said on of the burglars.

"He won't bite," said the other, "He's a wimp."

Walter might have bitten them, except he was so filled with gas he couldn't move. They tied a rag around his snout so he couldn't bark.

"Okay," whispered the first burglar, "let's clear the place out."

They took everything they could get their hands on. Walter wanted to stop them but he was having unbearable gas pains. He rolled on his back, and waved his paws in the air. He gnashed his teeth.

"We've got it all," said the second burglar.

That's when Walter let it fly. It was the worst fart of his life. It made a tremendous noise and shot him across the room. A hideous cloud filled the air. The burglars clutched their throats, unable to breathe.

With tears in their eyes, they raced for the window. They tried to grab their bag with all the valuables in it, but their arms were too weak.

"Let's...get...out...of...here..."

They jumped out the window and ran up the block, choking and gasping for air. Still blinded by Walter's attack, they stepped into the headlights of an approaching police car.

"Hold it right there!" said the policeman.

When Mother and Father came down in the morning, they found the open window. And they saw the bag with their valuables in it. And Walter was sitting beside it. He still had the rag tied around his snout. You'd have to say he looked heroic.

"He saved the silverware!" cried Mother.

"He saved the VCR!" cried Father. "Good dog, Walter! You're our dog, even if you do fart all the time."

And so the family learned to live with Walter, the hero dog.

And that's the end of our tail.

The End!

Wasn't this the best story? I urge you to go out and buy it for yourself (or your kids or grandkids) if you really like it.

I had so much fun reading this to the elderly people in the group and they laughed and laughed. It still makes me laugh every time, especially when Walter farts so hard, he blows himself and the cat off the couch.

This is so my kind of humor!

Blue Monday/Blue Porcelain Plate

I just love blue! It's my absolutely favorite color. Each week, Sally at Smiling Sally hosts this fun event.
I don't have as much to share this week as I have the last couple weeks. I've been feeling really under the weather with a bad cold and cough, and just generally achey. I'll be fine to go to work tomorrow, but just wanted to spend a lot of time catching up on sleep this weekend.

What I do have to share is a beautiful porcelain plate. I've had this plate for several years, but have no recollection of where I bought it, but it was probably in an antique or thrift store. It's the only porcelain plate I own that is mostly blue. At the old house, it sat on a shelf under a picture which featured a lot of blue. Eventually, it will find a place on the wall here at this house!

It's embarrassing to admit, but there is a room in my house that is still full of boxes and not yet put together. That's where my plate has been sitting in a box for a very long time. I have to get it sorted through and put together soon though, because it is going to be my formal living room and my daughter wants to get married there this December! Oh my God. There is a whole lot more to that story, but I'll post more in the next few days.

As for right now, I'm heading for bed. Tomorrow is a long day!

Pink Saturday/Pink bedding

Edited to add some thrilling news!: Shelia of Note Songs is home and safe! Her house suffered almost no damage. I am crying tears of joy because I am so happy for her! For those of you not familiar with her situation, she is a resident of Galveston Island and evacuated on September 12. Her picture is posted on my sidebar. Couldn't wait to share this wonderful news!

Welcome to another Pink Saturday! One of the benefits of being a single lady is that I can indulge my love for pink bedding with no one to complain about it being too frou frou! I love this set of dusty pink sheets. They are from Kohls, 300 thread count. Oh they are so soft! And the more I wash them, the more I love them!
I love my bedspread too. I found it in a cute little shop in the Hocking Hills. I had seen it the year before, so I saved up ahead of time to buy the quilt. I was so happy to be carting it home on my trip! There is more to the story, but I'll get to that at the end of this post.
It seems that my feet are always cold. I like having an extra quilt folded at the end of the bed. This is such a soft, nicely worn quilt. Actually, its the bottom of a wedding ring quilt, but the colors clash with my new bedspread so I flipped it over.
Sometimes I just keep my pink knit throw at the end of the bed.
When I make the bed, I put some pretty pink pillows on it too.
When I make the bed properly, this is what it looks like.
Ok, here is the rest of the story on the bedspread. See the matching shams? They did NOT come with the quilt, and I was having a heck of a time finding shams that looked right. I will tell you that I spent around $80 on the quilt. I thought it was a boutique quality quilt. Buyer beware!

One day I was visiting the local Big Lots store, and much to my amazement, there on the shelf was the bedding set: quilt and shams. And for only $25 total! Say what?!?! I was so mad! However, since I would have spent at least that much alone on shams that went with my bedding, I went back a couple days later and bought the set. I figure if this quilt wears out, then I have a brand new spare, or I can double them up on cold winter nights. That is, if I can't get one of those Misters to keep me warm like I described in my previous post on 7 qualities I'm looking for in a man!

If I do find one, do you think he would be bothered by the pink bedding and pink sheets? Nah, I'm going to be wearing one of those pretty pink nighties from a previous post and wearing pretty pink nail polish. I'll be kissing him with my pink lips and he isn't even going to notice. No siree!

Here's to pretty pink dreams!

Seven Thingies Tag and I am oh-so-quirky!

I have been tagged! Not by one, but two different blogger friends! I was first tagged by Christie at Somewhere in Time for a Seven Things tag on several different subjects. Then I was tagged by Bridget at My Silly Blog to share seven quirky things about myself. Your opinion of me may never be the same after this one!

I haven't been able to visit as many blogs lately and am so far behind. I don't even leave work until 7:00 twice per week now, and work is a little nuts right now because we have two separate audits going on this month. If I missed commenting on your blog, I apologize!

Anyhow, back to the tags! So here we go...

Seven Things I Plan To Do Before I Die......
1.Go back to visit Paris.
2.Travel all around the world.
3. Write a book.
4. Be in a serious relationship.
5. Earn my bachelor degree.
6. Have grandkids (no hurry on this one here)
7. Be debt free

Seven Things I CAN DO:
1. Be a great mother, even as a single parent.
2. Be hardworking and professional
3. Draw.
4. Sing.
5.Work with people and give them good advice.
6. Be funny
7.Be a survivor.

Seven Things I cannot Do:
1. Merge into traffic without great anxiety.
2. Push ups
3. Fix my hair the way I want it
4. Ice skate. I swear I have the world’s weakest ankles.
5. Drive on highways without feeling like freaking out a bit
6. Deal with heights. I truly am terrified of heights
7. Pee like a man. That’s why I insist the toilet seat be put down always.

Seven Things That Attract Me To My Mister: Hmm, since I don’t have one, I’ll improvise and put down the things that attract me to a man!
1. Intelligence.
2. Higher education
3. Tall.
4. In shape.
5. Kindness and respect for others
6. Sweetness
7. Well hung (hey, why not? Lol)

Seven Things I Say Most Often:
1. Pick up the Poop ( A common phrase with Jake aka Sir Poops-a-lot in the house. Also see #4).
2. Jared, put some clothes on!
3. Get off the computer!
4. What in the hell? (A common phrase with two boys in the house, especially when I find poop on the ceiling)
5. Turn that music down!
6. Hey kiddo!
7. I love you!

Seven Celebrity Admirations:
1. Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie (for their charities, for adopting children)

4. Paul Newman (for his charities, for his accomplishments, may he rest in peace)
5. Keanu Reeves (just for sheer hotness)
6. Whoopi Goldberg (for being totally freaking awesome in The Color Purple)
7. I’m sure there are more. I just can’t think of any right now.

Seven Favorite Foods:
1. Peanut butter and pickle relish sandwiches
2. Cheesecake
3. Dove Chocolate and Godiva chocolate, omg!!!
4. Yoplait chocolate whipped yogurt
5. Chicken ranch pizza
6. Fruit! Especially bananas, strawberries, green grapes and fresh raspberries
7. Seafood…LOVE it!

Seven Quirky Things About Myself

1. I think lawn gnomes are a little bit creepy. I don’t know why.

2. I think the bun on a McDonald’s Filet O Fish sandwich is nothing short of aesthetic perfection. I love the unblemished surface.

3. When I would wake my daughter up and she refused to get out of bed for school, I would sing “Love Shack” to her very loudly and very out of tune. It drove her nuts. I tried to download the video but it didn't work. Here is a link.

4. I tell my daughter that when she has children, I will call her daughter Jezebelle and call her son Buford. She is terrified that I will actually do this…and I probably will.

5. In times of extreme tension and crisis when others would be crying, I have sometimes started laughing hysterically and uncontrollably. This is NOT a good trait! And I really don’t even think the situations are funny!

6. I still love hard rock and heavy metal. My favorite song this summer was The Bleeding by Five Finger Death Punch. Seriously.

7. When I was about 11 or 12, my pet parakeet died in the dead of winter. Since I couldn’t take it out and bury it due to snow and the frozen ground, and since I couldn’t bear to have it thrown in the garbage, I put it in a box, wrapped it in beautiful wrapping paper (befitting a well loved pet bird), and slipped it all into a zip lock baggie, then put it in a closet in the basement so that I could bury it in the spring. I then totally forgot about it. Years later when I was in college, I one day received a phone call from my mother telling me that she had come across my bird. My poor mother probably thought, wow, what kind of present is this! I laugh so hard just thinking of it. Because of this incident, I probably deserved all the stuff my kids have done to me!

Okay, after that, I hope you'll be brave enough to come back to visit!
