Pink Saturday #7: It's official, I'm extra sweet!

It's Saturday and I have more pinkness in store for you! This weekly event is hosted by Bev at How Sweet the Sound. Please click on the link to get to the list of everyone else who is participating!

Well, it's officially confirmed. I'm extra sweet. The test results of my second fasting blood sugar (glycal hemoglobin) has shown that I am indeed diabetic. The week after next I will be meeting with my doctor to learn more about what I need to do to stay healthy, and then a few days later, I'll be meeting with a diabetes educator who can give me even more information.

I already know that one of the best ways to lower my blood sugar level is to exercise. I have not been much of an exerciser for quite some time. I haven't even owned a pair of sneakers for over 10 years. So today I did something that for me is a little bit of a big deal...I went out and bought a pair of Reeboks. Of course, they had to have pink! Cute, aren't they? Some pink detail. They feel so good on my feet!
They're even pink inside! That won't last, ha!
They're even pink on the bottom! That won't last either once I start walking.
I don't even have athletic socks, so went out and got some cute socks that are supposed to help keep my feet dry and healthy. They had pink writing on them. So cute! (I am too easily excited.) Anyhow, I live very close to the local Y, but it's darn expensive. I'm also within a short walking distance of the high school and am hoping that locals are allowed to walk around the track. I might even ask if residents are allowed to walk in the gym during certain hours.
Around the house, I should stop going barefoot. Besides, my toes are cold all the time, even in summer, so I have this pair of pink slippers that I got half price at K-Mart a couple weeks ago even before the dreaded diagnosis.
Another important part of taking care of my feet is to inspect them every day. I am already in the habit of taking good care of them. I use the cheese grater type thingie on my heels at least once or twice a week, and then each morning I put lotion on my feet followed by Gold Bond foot cream. I love this stuff and my heels don't look dry all day! Just pretend that the red is a dark, dark pink for this post. Pink is just red with white added anyhow, right?
Wish me luck! I can use all the prayers you care to offer up. I really want to stay healthy and am determined to make positive changes. I know that I have a lot to learn yet!

Here's to positive lifestyle changes!

Diet and a bit of exercise and meds have gotten my diabetes under control. I found out almost 2 years ago...not really a SHOCK, cuz my younger sister and our mom have it, too!

Kady! I'm soooooooooooo sorry to hear you've got the dreaded diabetes, but what a GREAT attitude you have toward the diagnosis. I would have been crying and screaming and throwing things, but what do you do? You go SHOPPING!
Out of curiosity, what is your fasting blood sugar? I'm hypoglycemic, but know that with my weight I'll some day be diabetic.

Justine :o )

I love your positive attitude! And I will remember to describe being diabetic as being "too sweet" - how clever! You're getting it together and doing things right and I admire that.

Have a great Pink Saturday!

Hey sweetie.... I am so sorry to here about the news hat you have diabetes. You will be in my prayers. I love the pink shoes....that's wonderful that you are going to start to exercise. I think that is wonderful and I believe it will help with it. I think you can overcome it. A friend of mine was diagnosed with it, she made lifestyle changes and within probably less than a year she got tested again and had no sign of diabetes. She was in her late 60's. There's hope girl! I am pulling for you...take care of yourself. I'll be thinking of you.
xoxo,
Queenie!

Kady ~ I'm sure this diagnosis was not good news, but I'm glad to hear that you are taking steps (no pun intended re: your new shoes!) to manage it. Good luck, and happy Pink Saturday!

Break in those cute pink sneakers, girl! You'll be back in good health in no time. I most definitely will pray for you. Life adjustments are difficult, aren't they? In a few weeks it will seem like you've always been in your new routine!

Happy Pink Saturday, and good for you on the road to wellness.

Be careful using that "grater". Diabetics aren't supposed to use those. I attended classes with my husband last year.

I'll keep you in my prayers.

Kady, I am so glad you are being serious about your diabetes. Two of my sisters have it and they do not take care of themselves. The consequences are dire. Your cute pink decorated sneakers will be your first step to diabetic health. You go girl.

Hugs...Jeanne

Kady those are so cute! I need a new pair of tennies myself. The ones I have don't have backs on them...
I just HATE having my feet encased in socks and shoes tho!
But I've been trying to walk as well.
Of course I'm going to plug Weight Watcher's CORE here... couldn't reccomend it more. I've heard lots of people at the meetings talk about their diabetes being better, or they don't even need medicine anymore (for many things). Just email me if you want to know more about it!

You go girl!! YOU are in control!
