Blue Monday/ A great blue find!

Welcome to this week's Blue Monday! Blue Monday is brought to us by our gracious hostess Smiling Sally.

About three weeks ago, I saw this chair and another just like it but with a black seat at the local Goodwill store. At that time I thought that I had no room for another chair, and how could I justify spending any money right now? They were still there the following week. I could feel myself weakening. I decided that if they were still there this weekend, they were coming home with me!

Only one was left however, the one with the blue needlepoint seat. And baby, let me tell you, the price was right! See this tag? Yes, $5! I am sure that this is an antique.

Here is a closer view of the needlepoint. It will definitely need some cleaning.

I was thinking about trying to clean the chair up and leave it unpainted, but the more I looked at the chair, it was crying out for some creamy white paint. When I tried to pull that awful pink tag off, the thick sticky tape the Goodwill employees had put it on with came off with some of the wood! That decided it for me. This will be an upcoming project.

Thought I would get some input from you all: I found these cool white boxes in the shed at the house on Bonnie Lane, left there by the previous owners. I don't think the man who made the shed his woodworking shop wants them as he passed away last week. That saddens me very much as I had met him and his wife and they were very sweet.

Anyhow, what would you do with these white boxes? I had thought of using them to hold photos, but I think I could do something better with them. Any suggestions?

Have a great Blue Monday and be sure to check out the other blue posts on other blogs.

Those are great boxes!!!
I would either set them upright and use them as shelves, or you could hang them.
Or, just turn them on their sides to display things in.

If they are not your style for displaying, you could just use them for drawer type storage as you were thinking.

Blessings.

PS Love that little chair and what a great deal. =0)

How foolish of Goodwill to stick something on a wood veneer! Remember, Goo Gone will take off sticker gently. I recently saw a bottle of it in a dollar store, but I don't remember which one. That seat might clean up nicely with the trick Suzanne at Colorado Lady uses. Check her blog. It's a beautiful chair. I'm at a loss about the drawers. Thanks for sharing. Happy Blue Monday.

OOO, I WANT THOSE DRAWERS...I have seen them all over Blogland, used for all kinds of really neat things..I'm not good at thinking up things for myself....Linda at BlueGate will be able to tell you something fabulous to do with them...or Tina at Cherry Hill...
Your chair is beautiful and CREAMY WHITE would be stunning with that blue seat !! When you learn how to clean needlepoint (most of it is wool) would you let me know? I have a piece my mom did that needs cleaning and I'm scared to touch it....

The chair is a gem of a find! Love the needlepoint seat!

I think that seeing that against a creamy white background would be perfect.

It is going to look great painted white. Please post a follow up picture.

I agree with Becky K.- paint the wood in the chair a creamy white. The lighter color will make the needlepoint cover just POP! As for the drawers, consider roughing them up with sandpaper around the edges and handles and hang them vertically with the drawer pulls on the top. Use them as display shelves. Now, get to work but have some fun!

A creamy white would be wonderful on that chair. The drawers are very nice. I would probably just use them in the office where I have a pale blue on the walls. They would be pretty used as storage for mail, etc.

Happy Blue Monday!

Blessings,
Sandi

You know I'm not crafty so I have no clue what you can use the boxes for, but they're neat, so definitely use them for something!
And that chair? $5????? STEAL!!! It's going to look gorgeous clean and with soft white paint!

Kady, the chair is a steal. The needlepoint is lovely and will clean up nicely. I would paint it cream or white. The boxes are neat and they should be shelves of a kind.

Have fun with your projects.

I agree with you & almost everyone~paint the chair. It will give it a more antiquey look and will go with just about any decor.

My first thought on the drawers were to stand them upright as shelves, maybe on top of a desk or dresser. I'd love to have those!!

Happy Blue Monday!

What a deal you got on that little chair. I love the needlepoint seat, and it will look so pretty painted white. I agree with others that hanging those drawers either sideways or lengthwise would make great shelves, or stacking them on a desk on their sides to hold desk supplies would be great. Those drawer pulls on them are so neat. laurie

Hi Kady! Oh, it's so nice to hear from you! I love the little chair you got for a steal! It will look so cute painted white. Those drawers! They would make cute little shelves to hang on the wall or just turn them up on their ends and use them as little tables.
I think I'll at least get a pedicure! lol

I totally LOVE the drawers and I would find a desk or table for my loft office (equally as charming) and stand them on top for storage, etc ......

Oh man...love those boxes! They are perfect as is and could be used for a ton of things. And if you do want to get the sticky off the chair use "Goo Gone" it won't hurt the wood but will take off the sticker glue. But I'm with you...I think a creamy white would look really pretty!

Hi Kady, Here I am at the tale end trying to catch up this week. You sure were lucky to find that chair. Too bad the other one was gone. But I agree with the rest of the gang - creamy white will look great. Jacob would suggest using the boxes for CD's or Movies or Video games if you need that type of storage. ~ Robyn
