Good-bye to Jakey

It has been so very long since I last posted. Life is very, very busy, but is going very well. My husband and I just celebrated out first anniversary. I don't know why people think that the first year of marriage is the most difficult -- my first year has been surprisingly easy! Anyhow, many of you will remember our puppy dog Jake.
When I got married and moved in with Mike, Jakey went to live with my sons in their new apartment. Yesterday on my way home from work, I got a call from my oldest son Sean. He was in tears. He said that Jake was not acting right and he feared he was very sick and was afraid he would not make it. Poor Jake was unable to walk without stumbling and kept falling into the wall. He also laid on my youngest son's bed and urinated as he laid and just stayed there. This was very unusual. This is Sean and Jakey. Anyhow, I went straight to the boys' apartment, and we rushed Jake to the vet on an emergency basis. After an exam, we were told that he was very sick and close to death, and that even if we did emergency treatment, the prognosis was poor. My heart wept for my son when he made the painful decision to end Jakey's suffering. I told him that he had given Jake a very good life and that this was the last good thing he could do for him. I was there with both of my boys as we comforted Jake through his last moments. It was heartbreaking for all of us, but especially for Sean as Jake his been his "little buddy" for the last 14 1/2 years. We are going to miss him so much! See you on the Rainbow Bridge, Jake! We love you.

I am saddened to hear of the loss of your special family member. That is a long time to have a pet and of course that makes even harder to lose them. I know that Jake is in a better place now. May you all be comforted as your mourn the loss of your loved one.

Oh dear, I know this was devastating for all of you ... I'm so sorry.

I was actually thinking about you yesterday as I worked on closing down Living Boldly, importing many of those posts into Poetry Matters. Your gall bladder poem started the thought process.

Stay healthy and happy ....

Hi Kady. I'm just now reading this as I just don't blog or read blogs as much as I used to. I know it's several years late, but I'm so, so sorry for your loss. I'm certain Jake is still in your thoughts and, you're right, he had a wonderful home. God love him.
Wishing you all the best,
Donna
