If you would like to check out more blue posts, hop on over to Smiling Sally's blog. The Mayfair pattern in the blue is more rare than the usual pink or green. Some people don't even realize that depression glass comes in blue, but there are many including a different shade of light blue in the Madrid pattern, and let's not forgot beautiful pieces in cobalt blue! Depression glass comes in many colors, far more than the pink, green and amber that people are most familiar with.
This first piece is a sweet pea vase. For a brief period of time, I was able to do some serious collecting of this lovely glass. I'm not going to tell you what I paid for this because it was rather dear, but I didn't get ripped off. It's a valuable piece and I thought it was gorgeous.
On Saturday night, I had a blue surprise. My youngest son and his best buddy who was spending the night were sitting out around the fire pit with me and we were roasting marshmallows and making smores. Much like in the picture below from an earlier post.
Oops, it wasn't my son. It was a cop, a man in blue. Oh my God, I called a cop "Goofy!"He said he was investigating a noise complaint. Noise complaint? I didn't think we were being loud at all! He said that he and his partner had been listening for a few minutes and didn't hear anything, and nothing seemed to be wrong. I told him that we were just sitting around the pit making S'mores. The marshmallows and graham crackers were still on the side and so were the discarded chocolate bar wrappers on a plate. Some exciting criminals we were! I'm not sure what the people who called the cops thought they heard. Normal talking and laughing? So sue me if that's a crime. At least these were teenagers who were home on a Saturday night having good old fashioned fun, causing no trouble at all.
I still can't believe I called a cop "Goofy!"

Oh, that's just priceless! Not only getting busted for cooking s'mores, but calling the cop Goofy! Heeheeheeeeeeeeee! He must have loved that!
Your depression glass is really beautiful. I think this is my favorite color I've seen it in so far.
Justine :o )
Kady,
I love that blue depression glass, and thank you for the lesson on how to tell it's authentic. I am one of those people who did not know that blue depression glass existed! Oh, I wish I had some.
Now, about calling the copy "Goofy"--whew! I guess he would've been goofy is he gave you trouble for enjoying a family Saturday night. I'm glad that all turned out okay.
Happy Blue Monday!
I WISH I had the blue Dep. glass. I have TONS of pink that I inherited, but I'm not really a pink person. I use my cookie jar to keep granola bars/snacks in!

Glad you're not in jail!! Goofy??
Your Mayfair collection is beautiful. And - your police adventure is priceless.
Sweetie
I'm glad we aren't hearing about you being arrested for making s'mores. Your dishes are beautiful, such pretty blue. Take care.
Those are so pretty!! They will look so nice in your cabinet when you get it. Odd about the police -- maybe the neighbor heard someone else?
I didn't know they had blue depression glass. I am drooling over the sweetpea vase for obvious reasons(I love sweetpeas!) You are one dangerous lady- making smores with teenage boys! What will you think of next. I shudder.
Thank you for the explanation about real versus repro depression glass...I haven't ever seen blue before either, but I love it!
;-) Bo
YOU WILD FELON YOU!! Not only were you in possession of illegal chocolate and marshmallows...but you called a Officer of the law GOOFY! I think that might be a federal offense! I always knew you were a wild one!
Hi Kady,
Love your collection of pretty blue depression glass. Don't know as I've ever seen it before myself. I've only seen it in pink, green and yellow. Will be a lovely collection to display when you finally get your china hutch. Laughed over your "men in blue" story. How funny and embarassing that must have been for you.
Wow I know a criminal S'mores maker!
I've tagged you darlin'! Come check out you assignment (should you accept!)
Lucky you, winning one of Edie Marie's Teacups. I'm drooling. I had to laugh at you calling the cop "Goofy". Hope it made him laugh too. I love you blue depression glass. Thanks for sharing.
Kady, I love your blue depression glass! That is so funny you called a cop Goofy! We had a church activity at our house this summer, it was a luau, when the cops showed up because they received a noise complaint, I asked the officer if he wanted some "pig". That didn't go over to well with him, we were roasting pigs, but he took it the wrong way!
So I laughed when I read you called them goofy. Too funny!
Love, Ann
Love your blue depression glass. Too funny about the cops!

Gosh, someone called the cops...bummer! Well, I think it's hilarious that you accidentally called a cop goofy. LOL! Your collection of Depression Glass is gorgeous. Hope you have a great week!
xoxo,
Queenie!

Oh my goodness! What happened here?
lol, charli and me ~
I loved all your pretty blue things.
I"m not sure I've ever seen bl;ue depression glass. Green is the most common, and there's a "rose"? that's pretty popular, but if I've seen it in blue I don't remember it. Very cool pieces you have here.
And "Officer Goofy" had to be responding to the wrong address. Because unless you live in a cemetery, I can't begin to imagine the noise ordinance you could have been charged with violating.
Your blue depression glas is beautiful. And the story of calling a cop goofy....priceless. That made me LOL
Love your blue depression glass and your story about the cop. Priceless.
Hugs, Jeanne
Oh that is TOO funny girl!
I too collect depression glass or used anyway, I have no more room for more! I have some of the the Mayfiar but it's in pink. Another telling sign that is is a repreduction is that the glass has a slightly oily feel to it! : ) Love the blue better than the pink myself!
You know, I'm far too happy a person to own depression glass, sounds like a big downer to me!!
(now youre thinking 'poor girl, gone off the deep end)
So you had a run in with the cops huh? I would have thanked him for giving me a great post idea and sent him on his way!
Ahhh, those blue glasses are gorgeous.... what do you call them--depression glass? Never heard that before, but they're certainly beautiful and would love to have something like that--it will go perfect with my creamware collection... :)
Have a lovely day, Kady...
cielo
Kady girl, I had no idea they made BLUE depression glass...this is awesome and you have a magnificent collection!
Now..don't be callin' any more cops GOOFY!! LOL
oops, that was me in the above post...

Wow! People are so mean, you can't even have a good time in your own back yard. I love your blue glass too. Deb
I guess the crackling of the fire and the crunch of the graham cracker did you in! That is so funny but so annoying.
Kady...love your blue depression glass but I know you can't be blue having that gorgeous glass in your home! How wonderful to have fun outside with your family...I LOVE reading about that! Really making me eager for fall now! Susan
Kady, your blue glass is so pretty. I love your post, so funny and you are so right on about your kids being at home having fun!:)

Ok, gf!!! You've really made me one jealous girl!! I love.. your blue depression glass. What did you say your address is?? If you find it missing, I didn't do it!! lol
Hi, Kady...I am so glad you liked the Asian salad...Bill and I just love it, too.
I know what you mean about getting around slow to all the blogs...Try as I might, I just can;t make them all. So many and so little time...
Take care, friend!
love, bj
