Pink Saturday/ Vintage Bedspread

For this week's Pink Saturday, I wanted to share a quilt that my maternal grandmother created for me when I was just a little girl. I estimate that that the quilt is at least 45 years old.

The only problem with the quilt is that it has some old stains on it. I tried to take it to several different cleaners, but because of it's age, no one will touch it! I have always loved this quilt. My grandmother was such an excellent seamstress and skilled in needlepoint. She appliqued these beautiful flowers onto this bedspread.

Here is the center of the bedspread. The flowers are so lovely!

Here you can see it up closely. She embroidered the stitching on those flowers!

See that blue dot? This is not an appligue, it's embroidered also! When I was little, I used to love to rub my finger across the embroidered dots because they were so soft and silky!

I sure wish I had taken better care of this when I was little and when it came to me as a young adult! I didn't realize its value at the time. It is now draped over a wicker plant stand that I have in my bedroom where I can look at it every day!

That is a lovely quilt. Surely there is a way to clean it that is tough on the stains, but gentle to the quilt. Someone's blog, can't remember who, had something about cleaning old linens. If I figure out who it was, I will have to let you know.

What a beautiful quilt. It's a shame about the stains, but it certainly attests to how useful such a quilt can be, and also how loved it is. I love the touch about the embroidered blue dot, you remember from childhood.

Have a great Pink Saturday.

That's a beautiful bedspread and I don't blame you for displaying it. My grandmother gave me so many things she had, but I was young and stupid, didn't keep a lot of it. What I do still have I treasure now. Mostly dishes is all I have now.

Hugs,
Chris

Your quilt is so lovely and boy do I know what you mean when you say "oh how I wish I had taken better care of it back then" I too have a few pieces that I say that about all the time.

It could be worse.....we could not even have them at all...but thanks to heaven we still do.

Happy Pink Saturday, Kady.

What a wonderful treasure you have. And, it is beautiful.

I suggest you contact a dealer that specializes in selling vintage linens. I feel certain they could give you some cleaning tips.
