I'll Fly Away Oh Glory!

Yesterday was a very windy, blustery day! I decided to attend the city's annual Lilac Festival. I got there a few hours after it started, and much to my dismay, many of the vendors had already left for the day. I suspect this had a lot to do with the wind and having some of their merchandise blown into the streets!

Even though many of the vendors had packed up shop and left early, there were several stores that had extended hours. There were second hand shops, antique shops, and a very cute boutique that I didn't know existed. I found a cute dresser scarf and several antique postcards.

One shop had a set of wicker funiture outside, so I had to check it out! There is also a picture in the window that would be perfect for my kitchen, but the price wasn't so perfect. The shopkeeper came up to me and asked if I heard her conversation with the other customers. Well, no, I am not really an eavesdropper. She decided to share.

I always find it odd that people are willing so share certain parts of their lives. My job is to listen to people, and I chose that type of job because people are always telling me things and asking my advice. She began to tell me that she had gone outside to get a chair that she had put out front. A fierce gust of wind tore her clip on hairpiece right off of her head and sent it flying into the road. Without thinking, she dashed into the road to get it...right in front of a police car with chuckling officer behind the wheel, and a car full of giggling teenage girls. As she related this story, I burst out laughing. Much to my chagrin, she got a sad look on her face as she said, "and they all laughed at me." She proceeded to tell me that she continued chasing it up the street, and when she finally caught up with it, she stomped on it! She feared that people would think she was stepping on a rat. I told her I didn't think that the rats around here had blond fur. I told her not to worry, by tomorrow no one would think about it and that they would be laughing about something else. Then she asked the question: What would you have done? I confess....exactly the same thing!

Like she said, "this thing cost me $20. I wasn't going to just let it get away!" She then proceeded to tell me about the time she went to church, walked all the way to the front to sit in a pew near the altar, then a nice lady behind her told her to check her dress. She had walked all the way up with the hem of her dress tucked into her pantyhose, exposing her derriere!

She said she didn't know how she was going to show her face again, but I think she was wonderful and hilarious. I'm going to go back to her shop someday. She is just too fun!

It's a gorgeous day out today! Sunny, far less wind, and in the high 60s. Thought I'd leave you with a pic of the flower bed at the end of my driveway. It won't stay this beautiful for much longer. Have a blessed Sunday!

Wow, what a gorgeous spring flower pic, all those colors!! I am so envious of your flowers, can you tell? There wasn't anything in our yard when we moved here, except the lilac bush... which was so old and scraggly it's just now looking nice after we trimmed WAY back.
What a funny story! I would've stomped on it too! I have many hairpieces of my own, and they are fun to use on clients.
Too bad the pic was too exspensive tho!
